Hi, I am Sarah Dodkin Rush. I am artist based in Soham, Cambridgeshire and currently creating ink, pen and watercoloured artworks on paper.
I have always been creative and throughout my life I took the chance to explore painting, sculpture, wood carving, working with Perspex, pottery and more.
I decided later in life to follow my ambition of becoming a professional artist by attending The Cambridge School of Art studying a conceptual course in Fine Art and gaining my honours degree.
I recently painted my front door and got carried away. Luckily my husband liked it. This inspired a new series of artworks you can explore here on my website.
My current work is about space, narrative and the relationship between one mark and another. Each mark influences where the next mark, line or space needs to be. Each artwork inspires or suggests another direction for the next artwork.
Inspiration comes mainly from nature, but maps, graphs and discussions with people all give me ideas.
Once the shapes are drawn in pencil, the most difficult part for me is how to present the work. Usually the shapes created inspires the finish required. Stark black and white, coloured inks or watercolours, both pure and blended. Also, whether it needs a background effect of positive and negative. Sometimes I don't know what is needed so I leave those artworks around my studio until inspiration comes to me.
I take pride in drawing, painting and inking each line by hand to create these original artworks.
